According to prehistoric legends, all music began with the mythical emperor Fu Hsi.

Actually, history and archeology indicate that the foundations of Chinese music were laid during the Shung Dynasty (apx. 1523 – 1028 B.C.) Several significant instruments were already in existence — the pitched sonorous stone (ch’ing), the pitched bronze bell (zhong), the globular flute, the panpipes and the reed mouth organ (sheng).

Calligraphy 

The tools for Chinese calligraphy are few-an ink stick, an ink stone, a brush, and paper.

The calligrapher, using a combination of technical skill and imagination, must provide interesting shapes to the strokes and must compose beautiful structures from them without any retouching or shading and, most important of all, with well-balanced spaces between strokes. This balance needs years of practice and training.

About Angela Jui Lee

Angela was born in China, in the city of Xi’an.  Her family lived in Taiwan for many years, and from there she emigrated to the United States in 1971.  While still in Taiwan, she studied music as an apprentice to master gu-zheng artists Wei De-Liang and Li Ying.
Angela performs in a variety of venues.  In addition to solo recitals in concert halls, she has performed in museums and art exhibitions, presented workshops in universities, schools, and participated in special cultural events.
